Show and Share time!

This is Alexia with the pillow she made with Grandma Julia. Alexia helped her grandma take down quilts after our outdoor show last spring so Frank told her to pick out a fat quarter. No surprise, she picked the one with the pink hearts. Julia said it was very important to Alex that she use every bit of the fabric in the FQ. That's a good sign for her future as a quilter, isn't it? Nice job, Alex.

And Deb S. shared this fun quilt. Lonnie helped her pick out fabrics to accent the panel of baby zoo animals. On closer inspection, you can see the quilting design Deb used for the machine quilting is a repetition of monkeys. Very happy little quilt.

September 26- Big day!

Join us Saturday morning at the Adel Library from 9 am to 1 pm to help make pillowcases and pillowcase kits for Case for Smiles.

If you can, bring your sewing machine, ruler and rotary cutter  and sew a couple up. Got excess cottons in your stash, bring that along as well. They prefer no flannel. Think kids prints.

Cutting mats and pressing stations will be provided.

Jennifer Buttolph is the Central/ Western representative from this organization will be there to lead the morning. Come for the morning to stitch or just for an hour to cut, press and fold, they appreciate all of the help they can get. Read more here in this excerpt from their website.

ConKerr Cancer is now Case For Smiles

ConKerr Cancer is now Ryan’s Case for Smiles (Case for Smiles) for short. We have a new name, new look and new website, but are driven by the same mission and passion.  Each day, thousands of volunteers across North America work to provide hospitalized children with whimsical pillowcases, giving them an emotional boost and reminding them they are not defined by their illnesses.  With every stitch, every yard of fabric and every pillowcase, we get one step closer to our goal of helping kids with life changing illnesses or injuries, feel better to heal better.  Won’t you join us?

Quilt Circle Open House

Quilt Circle of Friends had a fun evening, hosting an Open House at the Adel Library and featuring designer Kelly Mueller from The Wooden Bear.

We opened the evening with the show and share of a few of the blocks that were turned in for our Breast Cancer Awareness quilt.

Kelly had a very nice display of many of her designs on bags, bibs, onesies and towels. Behind her above are several of her brand new designs she calls patternettes. They are still at the print shop but they will be available here soon.

The ladies gathered to listen as Kelly explained how to print some of her designs on fabric and then stitch into a project like her little zipper pouches.
She also talked about how to iron some of her designs onto fabric using heat transfer. Very interesting.

And then, of course, there was the shopping. Lonnie was there to help with that. Thank you, Lonnie.

Quilt Circle of Friends members provided bars and cookies. Thank you to this little welcoming committee - Theresa, Nancy and Joyce.

--- and lots of mingling. It was a fun evening. Thank you to Kelly for visiting us in Adel. Thank you to our guests. Thank you to Quilt Circle for the treats and the help cleaning up and Thank you to Jackie O. for taking and sending me these pictures.

Love my Quilt Circle of Friends.

Well over half way - - - -

By the time this posts, I hope to have the remaining blocks turned in. We have 3 more rows to add.

There will be one block in each row that has the dark grey accent fabric. The bottom three blocks shown here will be inserted in those last three rows.
This has been such a treat to work on. Each block is very well made and there are no two alike. I wasn't sure about the dark grey but now I think it gives just the accent needed.

Quilting For Cancer (Bonnie's blog 9/17/15) | Van and Bonnie in the Morning on WHO Radio

Quilting For Cancer (Bonnie's blog 9/17/15) | Van and Bonnie in the Morning on WHO Radio

I had a nice visit with Van and Bonnie this morning, spreading the news about our community Breast Cancer Awareness quilt.

It's a boy!

Made you look, didn't I?
We've been babysitting a chrysalis for our neighbor who is participating in a save the Monarchs program.

This morning, he broke free.

We took him outside and let him go.

We can tell this is a male by the oval shaped dots in the orange part of his wings.

Show and Tell Block

Jan J. brought this block in to show. Remember this pattern? Jan reshaped her hearts and they almost look like Aspen leaves. Such a pretty fall block and so easy - - - - applique hearts on a pinwheel background. Thanks for sharing, Jan.

A few more new samples

This is what I have been working on the last couple of Sunday Sewdays.
I used double brushed flannel to make this bolster pillow from the book, Pumpkin Patch Threads. This little $10 book is just full of great fall ideas, patterns and motifs.

This quilt pattern is a free download from Studio E fabrics. I think it's just sweet as can be. We featured the Momasa line, one of my current favorites. We have this in kit which includes the pattern and a handy fabric reference sheet.
We all know it, the holidays are just around the corner! Here is a little Christmas quilt Lonnie K. made using Hoffman 2 1/2" pre-cut strips. We have this one kitted as well. This is much prettier in person with gold metallic highlights in the fabric. Thanks, Lonnie!

Customer Scott B, shown above, came in one day and asked for help picking fabrics for a quilt he designed. He is chaplain for a group of Lakota Indians who have a ministry of teaching children to sew. He provided the fabric and pattern for this group to make him his own quilt to cherish now and be buried in some day.

Full of symbolism, the center looks like a turtle because the United States was once known as the Turtle Nation to Lakota tribes due to it's shape.

Scott was very happy with the way it turned out and I was very pleased to be a part of it. Nice job, ladies.

Quilters never cease to amaze me!

We needed 20 quilters to make 40 blocks (plus the two I made) for our Breast Cancer Awareness Quilt and, in 24 hours, we got it!

Thank you to all who stepped up and all who were planning to. We have sold all 20 of our block kits and have closed the project.

WHO is offering 20 tickets for all who turn in blocks from our kits so we don't want to go over that number.

Thank you, thank you , thank you! I wish there was a bigger word!

Quick Reminder - - -

Due to a schedule conflict with the Adel Library, September Open Sew is next week.

Fun stuff - -

Quilter friends, Marti and Bonnie, share part of a long driveway. As it nears their homes, the drive splits. Marti's husband made this sign to post at the "Y" in the road. Bonnie's address is 32878 and Marti's is 32080.

Anyone who knows these two knows that they have a friendly competitive relationship. It seems that occasionally, extra signs appear as shown here with maybe some questionable info - - - Marti did win 1st place by viewer's choice in our Little Sister's Outdoor Quilt Show and Bonnie won 2nd place (not 3rd) in the block contest at the same show. Hmm - - wonder who posted those hand written comments??

Sweetness - -

This is it!

---The last day of the 2015 Row by Row Experience! We still have very few kits of our row and very few license plates and today is the last day we can sell them until November 1. And today is the last day to sign up for our RxR Drawing for 5 $20 Gift Certificates!

New Stuff

Scissor sets - 2 pair for $20 - a portion of the proceeds are donated to breast cancer research.

Did you know the new Fall Quilt Sampler is out? I didn't even know it was Fall! Humid and 90 degrees doesn't really feel like Fall, does it? One Iowa shop is featured - Little Red Hen in Muscatine. Congrats to them!
And more for Quilt for a Cure. Breast Cancer Awareness month is October. We are planning a block challenge with these fabrics so, turn up your creative juices and watch for more on this.

Another new grouping - Varsity by Moda. Fun fabric for T-shirt quilts, right?
New set of patterns. These each can be made into a table runner or wall hanging. There is also an option to piece all of these units together to make a wall quilt. Really cute. Cat lovers must have.

And a new Little Snapper just buzzed in. This brings our assortment of Little Snapper kits to about an even dozen, hitting all the seasons of the year. For just $12.95, the kits include all fabrics for front, back, binding plus pattern and the hanger.

More Show and Share

This grandma is waiting for her first grandchild and she is ready! The baby room will be decorated with bees and so the inspiration for this quilt. Those are little bumble bees buzzing around the honeycomb center. Very "sweet" indeed.

A Little Show and Share

Carol P. came in to share some of the quilts and tops she has been getting done!
This is her Strip Club quilt done in the Kansas Troubles fabrics. Love how it turned out. Pattern is called Morse Code and we do have more pre-cut strips to build this quilt. Contact us if interested

Lover of the pre-cuts, Carol made this one from 1 pack of 5" charm square prints and 1 pack of 5" charm square whites. Isn't this both fun and pretty?

Next she shared this Jacob's Ladder quilt from the pattern found in a recent issue of Block by Missouri Star Quilts. This was her first 2 color quilt. Nice.

In between her own projects, Carol finds time to make lots of shop sample quilts for us. This is Tasty Measures from Modern Quilt Relish and uses ombre fabric. We have the pattern and the kits for this one. It's a must see - beautiful in person. Thank you, Carol!

Birthday Girl!

Happy birthday to our firstborn, Brookly! Let's see, she is 20 years younger than me so - - she must be about 38 today??
