This annual holiday event is coming Friday, December 1.

Visit businesses for a recipe and sample.

Stop by the quilt shop for a sample of our cheese ball bites and a sip of warm apple wine.

Santa will be in town, there will be strolling musicians and the town will be lit!

Knock out a bit of your holiday shopping while in town.

For more information, visit Adel's chamber website at this link

Our Angel Tree is up with just two children left to sponsor. Reminder, this year, all pillow cases have been donated so all you need to do is shop a bit for gifts to tuck inside.

Happy Thanksgiving!

So much to be thankful for - - -

We will be closed this Thursday to count our blessings.

We will be open Friday and Saturday for Holiday Open House and Shop Small Business Saturday. See you then.

First Holiday Open House this week.

We will sponsor our first Holiday Open House this weekend November 24 and 25. Stop by for a fudge sample, gift making demos, discounts on holiday fabrics and gift certificates for the quilter in your life.

Saturday is also Shop Small Business Day. In recognition, we are giving away canvas shopping bags with your purchase!

The Angel Tree is up and nearly all of the Angels have been adopted for the holiday. If you missed out and would like an Angel to sponsor, give us a call. We can always get more names.

Special this year, a very generous anonymous quilter made a stack of pillow cases for us to use for the gifts. Thank you - - - - you know who you are!

Disappearing Pinwheel with a Twist.

Here's another stunner by Lonnie K. This is from Missouri Star Quilts, published in their newest issue of Block. It follows the same techniques used in all of their "disappearing" blocks. You start with 10" squares and there is no waste.

Of course you know we have this in kit but these fabrics are going quickly and are not available to reorder. We also have extra copies of this Block magazine.

Sisters of the Cloth - This Saturday!

Sisters of the Cloth is this Saturday, November 18, at the Adel Library, 10 am to noon.

We will have a very entertaining presentation by quilt historian, Millie Freese, and we will learn how to make a Dresden Plate block with folded inserts, The Spike Dresden Plate.

Guests are welcome for $15.

A couple Open Sew pics

I did not get to stay long at Open Sew this month but here are a few pics I took while there:
Janet V shared this pretty gray and yellow quilt.

And this one by Marti K was a pallet of soft batiks.

Celia brought this quilt to show us. These are the heart blocks made for her by Quilt Circle members after her husband, Tim, lost his battle with cancer. The instruction was to make a block using bright fabrics. Love the fun fabric she used for sashing.

Last Call

Have any of these been tempting you? Better shop now.
There is just one kit of this Cathedral Window Flag left. Some have asked us to substitute the gold with white and we are happy to do it.

There is just one panel of these adorable snowmen left. Ask us about our panel pattern or just add a border and call it done in time for the holidays.

And there is just one kit left for this mug mat, complete with the textured leaf applique.

New Stuff

Just in, this very pretty holiday panel.
Here is a close up of just one block pieced to look like a window frame. We can show you how.
Aren't these pretty? Hand crafted stilettos. Beautiful and practical! Put one of these on your Santa wish list.

School Bags for Charity

Remember the picture of JoAnne working on this project for a charity through the United Methodist Church? Here is a photo of 140 school bags. That's a lot a sewing and a very generous donation of time and talents.

Halloween wrap up.

This was on the counter at our local bank. It's a real pumpkin made by putting a face mold on the plant while it is growing. Isn't that clever?

And here's Max, ready to greet trick or treaters. He looks like a puppy here but he is quite the old dog.

You could not have left a younger, more spry Max off the leash unless you wanted to chase him while he chased a squirrel or bird or anything moving.

This old dog, however, doesn't think climbing the steps is worth it!

This friendly group of ladies stopped by Saturday to shop a bit. They are from Marysville MO and had been to the Iowa Quilt Museum in Winterset. Thanks for stopping in Adel, gals!

Comfort Quilts

Remember the comfort blocks we collected at retreat? Some of the retreat guests put them together. By adding offset blocks and setting this quilt on point, they were able to make 3 comfort quilts.

Thank you to everyone that made a block and that helped put these together. These tops went home with three different long arm quilters who will finish them up for presentation.

Veteran Retreaters

We have just wrapped our 15th Fall Ladies of the Lake Quilt Retreat. We had 12 guests that have been to 10 or more of these retreats but Nancy S. and I are the only ones that have been to all 15!

Notice our name badges. The crystals represent the number of retreats attended, one crystal for each year.

I am so grateful to our faithful retreat guests and friends. We laugh together, cry together, do a little charity quilting, pamper our selves with massages, eat way too much and stitch and stitch and stitch.

Time to settle in - - - - Come to Adel!

With the freezing temps in the air, it's time to move back inside to our sewing rooms.

Let us help you get started on some great hand made gifts.

Come in this Saturday, November 4, to help set the mood. Have a sample of our fudge and take advantage of 20% of our wide backing fabrics.

While you are here, we'll show you how to make these cute fabric boxes and give you a free pattern from Seaside Stitches.

Also, while in Adel, visit our neighbor at Decor Adel, 710 Prairie Street. They are converting their home dec/gift shop to an online business soon so this should be a great time to shop.

In the mood for coffee and a scone? Stop by Adel's Brick Street Bakery.

If lunch sounds better, you can't beat Brick Street Books and Cafe for soup and sandwich. Don't forget the pie!

Nearly next door to the bakery, stop in Adel Healthmart and peruse their nice gift shop boutique.

Thank you note

How cute is this little guy? At our Spring Ladies of the Lake Quilt Retreat, we gave one of our charity quilts to the chef at Lake Panorama Conference Center, expecting his first child.

Yesterday, Chef Drew gave me this picture and thank you note. Evan is now 4 months old.
