Ankeny Area Quilters

I had the pleasure of speaking at the Ankeny Area Quilt Guild meeting last week. For their service project, they are making 38" square quilts for a hospital NICU.  Here are a few that were shown at this weeks meeting.

Comfort Quilt News

All of our retreats include a Comfort Quilt project. This year, we made 4 baby quilts from this brick pattern. Julia pre-cut all of the bricks in the shop prior to retreat and I passed them around to guests to stitch a few together and then, as it progressed, to add a row. Another example of the good work done by many hands.

Two of these baby quilts will go to Wagon Warriors (for kids in treatment) and two will go to the Mercy PICU.

We are also collecting blocks for a Comfort Quilt for a local gal in treatment. Here are a few of the blocks that were made by quilters at retreat for that project.

Blocks by Diann F.

Sarah and Amy are making these really fun Flamingo quilts. I plan to order this pattern for a shop sample.

These two bring the youth to our group. They showed up with fresh tatoos, the kind that will be gone before they head back home.

Ouch!

Lonnie and I enjoyed a tour of the new quilt exhibit at the Iowa Quilt Museum featuring scrappy quilts. Lonnie stands beside her quilt, Gypsy Wife, which was selected for this exhibit. Such a beauty.

We collect all the snips and scraps trimmed away all week and use them to stuff shelter doggie beds. Thank you Nancy J and Deb S for working on this one.
Another fun tradition at retreat is sitting for the annual friends group photos. the "booth" is ready!
