Our family grows

This wedding, held on March 21 in Dallas, was reduced from an audience of 200 to these 4 and a couple others.

Instead of jumping on a plane for their honeymoon, they drove a couple hours to an Air B&B in Oklahoma. Love does not mind.
You may have seen this on Facebook but, just in case, help me welcome son Gabe's new family - Brooke with 6 year old Bradley and 9 year old Jack.

I now have 5 grandchildren and they are all ages 6 and 9, I have a Jack, Jackson and Jac (me) and a daughter Brook and a DIL Brooke.  We will get good at nic names, won't we?

Retreat pattern

This is a pattern I planned to share at Spring Quilt Retreat this weekend. We are still having the retreat. However, to help mitigate the effects of the Covid 19 virus, we have spread it out. We are all sewing together apart from our own homes. 😍😍

I named this pattern Get Out of Town. The idea was to shoo the geese north, escorting winter out and spring in. Now it takes on another meaning - to shoo the virus out and lift this veil we are all under.

AND - the Spring Ladies of the Lake Quilt Retreat for 2020 will now be known as the Summer Ladies of the Lake Quilt Retreat - now scheduled for July 20, 21 and 22.

Easy Mask Making

I have looked at several ways of making these masks. While they each net pretty much the same product, this seems to me the easiest way to make many in short order.
Cut 2 rectangles, 6" x 9" and press short ends to the wrong side about 1/4"

Stitch both long sides. Turn inside out and press.
Cut 2 - 6" lengths of 1/4" elastic. Insert 1 end of 1 piece at the top of the side opening and pin in place.

Top stitch through all layers until about 1" from other end.

Now make 3 pleats by making about 1/4" folds and top stitch to hold. Stick the other end of the elastic in the 1" remaining opening and top stitch to finish off that side.  Repeat for other side.

Things we can expect - -

This is the Spring Scavenger Hunt. The plan is to reschedule when things settle down. Stay in - Stay well.

The Bitty Box

I made this Bitty Box this evening from a kit I bought on vacation. Stuffed full of chocolate kisses, it will get mailed to a friend who is in self-quarantine for her own safety. I hope it brightens her day.

The Village Block

Roof background (sky) Cut 2 - 3" squares and mark each diagonally one time on the wrong side.

Cut  rectangle 3" x 5 1/2" for roof peak (shingles)

Lay marked square on one corner of roof rectangle, right sides together. Stitch on the line.
Trim off corner as shown and press triangle away from center.

Repeat on other corner of roof rectangle.
This roof unit should now measure 3" x 5 1/2"

Cut pieces for the house and lay out/stitch as shown.
House:
2 - 2 1/4" x 4"
1 - 2" x 2 1/4"
Door:
1 - 2" x 2 1/4"

Jenny's comfort project

Jenny made this comfort quilt for a member of her congregation.

It was a Jelly Roll Race quilt but she added this angel. She did trapunto around the angel to make it puff out.

Members of the congregation wrote messages on hearts that Jenny appliqued' to the border.

And she embroidered the word Faith toward the bottom edge of the quilt front.
Jenny used flannel backing and Lynette Heitland machine quilted it. Very snuggly indeed.  Note: Lynette is one of our drop off, pick up machine quilters here.

The recipient is making trips back and forth to Mayo for treatments so Jenny made her a matching bag to carry her quilt and supplies.

Jenny is not only very talented at creating special gifts, she is also a very generous soul.

QC February 2020

As we cancel our March meeting to help mitigate the spread of COVID 19, I realize I did not post the February meeting pics!

Here's Bonnie, modeling the socks she received in our holiday party sock exchange. Aren't they perfect for her?

We had so much fun at our January holiday party, we forgot to take the annual sock exchange picture so this was our attempt at a redo. Not everyone remembered to bring their socks but here are a few.

We welcomed new friends and then round the circle we went with our show and share.
