February Temperature Quilt Block

My February Temperature Quilt Block:
The average temperature in central Iowa for February 2021 was 15 degrees.  Referencing our color chart, that makes the February block color sapphire.

Moda's Grunge Temperature quilt chart

Who wants to do a temperature quilt with me? This is a chart from Moda featuring their Grunge fabrics but you can use any fabric with this as a color guide.

My plan is to make 1 blocks a month using fabrics in the color that represents the average temperature here for the month.

I'll start with January when the average temp in central Iowa was 23 so my first block is blue-ish greens.
We will always be a little behind as we wait to find the average temp of the month.

I'm going to use this 9" Irish Chain block for mine. I think the chains across the block will create a really fun secondary color pattern.  Here is the cutting information:
        Color:     8 - 2" squares
                       1 - 3 1/2" square
        Background:   4 - 2" x 3 1/2" rectangles
                                4 - 2" x 6 1/2" rectangles

Who wants to stitch along? I will post the temps and my blocks here as well as on our FB page.

This week we are featuring our books for one last time. Books are now $2 each until the end of our sale, March 1.

$2 from each book sold will be donated to the Adel Good Samaritan Food Pantry.

Join us in giving back to our community during this time of great need.

Jenny Osler brought in a baby quilt gift she just completed.

                                           This is the back

Here is a close up of the front showing how she layered fabric, stitched rows and cut to create this rag quilt.

And then she personalized it with the first letter of the new babies name. Isn't this sweet?

Valentines dinner?

This recipe was in our February Adel Living magazine. I think it sounds pretty good.

Sewday??

 Every-Day-is-Now-Sew-Day???

That's how it has felt lately.  Here's what I have been working on. How about you?

I made these two cosmetic/sewing notions bags from pre-quilted fabric and I started on this panel quilt.
We will have a pattern and kits for this as soon as I get the quilting and binding done.

Jenny O made tbis embroidery on waste cloth. It's like aida cloth used for counted cross stitch but, after stitching, you get it wet and pull the foundation out, one string at a time.

This is beautifully done. It's a gift for a friend at church. Thanks for sharing, Jenny!

New fabric!

The coordinating fabrics for our new Dream Scapes came in today. So pretty!

Fabric Search

Deb S is looking for 3/4 yard of this white fabric. Remember this? It was part of the All Iowa Shop Hop fabric a couple years ago.

If you have a piece of this you would like to sell to Deb, give me a call in the shop and I will get you hooked up with her. 515-993-1170

Sunday Sewday - the next week

Boy the weeks fly by and I have been doing a lot of sewing so, here's the next new shop sample:

This was fun. It's the pattern, Dream Big Little one from the Animal Attractions books.  We have sold dozens of this book so you may have it!

Rather than piecing the rows as shown in the book, I used a pre-cut roll from Moda that comes printed in strips of 5" squares.  I used some of the strips for the applique' and even used one strip to piece down the middle of the back, giving it the additional width needed.

The navy fabric is flannel which I though popped nicely agains the bright colors in the prints.

The original pattern shows this quilt with whales but the book also has these lamb applique' pieces so I made that substitution.
