State Fair Quilts

So many beautiful quilts at the Iowa State Fair! I chose to grab a picture of those of Quilt Circle of Friends members.

Marti Klatt

Jackie Orton

Another by Jackie Orton

This one is by Millie Kehrli and machine quilted by our Monday girl, Julia Swallow. Millie is not in QC but she recently shared this quilt at Sister's of the Cloth so I included her here.

Here is Best of Show by Leigh Lussie. She is not a QC member either but I have followed her beautiful applique work for many, many years as my mother used to hand quilt for her. Leigh was definitely an inspiration for me to start quilting

Another by Marti Klatt. The story goes that this is what happens to our sewing machines when we leave them unused for a bit. Fabric vines grown on them.

Yet another by Jackie Orton

This is by Karen Thompson. She is not a QC member either but she spoke to QC recently about Temperature Quilts and I LOVE this little quilts, especially the colors.

Then we skipped on over to the 4-H building and spotted this quilt by Great Niece, Sydney Hurd, with a blue ribbon on it!!

I share with all of you in wishing we could view more of the quilts but, it is still a wonderful show, featuring hundreds of talented quilters from all over Iowa. Hats off to those that participate and hats off to those who help make it happen.

We are sponsoring 2nd, 3rd and 4th place quilts with $25 gift certificates.

Charming Stars

Here's a fun new pattern we've been playing with. Both of these 18" quilts were made from one pack of William Morris holiday fabric plus 1/4 yard of light and binding.  These are all half square triangles with even the border pieced from charm square cuts

Little Helpers

The little ones love to play Shop Keeper when they come. Olive's speciality seems to be shopping.

These are a few of her selections, including about 10 pink thimbles.

She has a specific look, doesn't she?
The boys prefer to work behind the counter. Calvin can't understand why business cards don't work on the credit card machine

Jack put on his ninja band and went straight to collecting revenue.
BTW, Happy 7th bday to Jack today! What a great little guy.

Quilt Pictures

We all love Show and Share, don't we? Here are a few quilt pictures I took recently from a weekend with the online group, Iowa Quilters.

Quilt made from group block exchange.

Another quilt from the group block exchange.

A quilt from an exchange of half square triangle units (Adel's Quilt Circle of Friends exchange)

A Strip Club quilt from Adel Quilting - finished at this retreat!

And a Crazy Patriotic quilt. Nice.
This retreat also included the unveiling of a group challenge called Panel Palooza. Guests at the 2017 retreat were given a panel and challenged to convert it into a quilt. Notice, in the pictures where there is more than one quilt, both quilts originated from the same panel. Here they are!

This young lady, not quite a senior in high school, is also a clothing designer, working on her first line to be shown on the runway!

Her specialty is beading. Each of these gowns include heavy bead embellishment.

This dress with a train will be her prom dress.

This wedding gown incorporates doilies into the bodice.
This retreat also included a drawing for donated prizes of either "skinnies" (aka quilt tops) or generous bags of fabric scraps, sorted by color.
This is the Skinny I won in the drawing. Doesn't it look nice on my new chair? I'll get it quilted up with a nice plush backing and have it all ready to snuggle under in the coming Iowa winter.

Sweet Corn Festival Saturday August 11

Here comes Adel's biggest event of the year, the Sweet Corn Festival!

With this event comes lots of folks in cars. Early day parking, during the parade, will be the tightest around the quilt shop. You may want to take advantage of the shuttle from the high school.

Come enjoy lots of vendors, great food and street entertainment and visit us in the quilt shop. Be sure to get your commemorative kit for this year's sweet corn potholder, while supplies last.

Sydney's clutch

When Great niece Sydney was here about a week ago to work on her 4-H project, she was smitten by other patterns and fabrics in the shop. She took home this pattern, frame and fabric for a little clutch and already has it sewn up! Isn't that adorable! Good job, Syd!

And - guess what? Here's an update on her 4-H quilt. It's on to state fair!
