Sunday Sewday!

This was a fun new shop sample I put together and it will fit nicely in my red and white quilt collection, won't it?

And this little bit of Easter fun is all from one panel. Cut. Stitch.Stuff.
The panel also includes the pieces to make the matching bag.

New Stuff!

Here are a few new panels that just came in. These are digital prints which allows for more color incorporation into the fabric.

Both of these panels are 29" wide, a little wider than the average panel.

And this is a new shop sample of our aquatic panel. The first sample had 2 green borders that really set off the center. That one was gifted at Christmas so Jenny Osler made us a new sample.  This new sample incorporates purple, a favorite color of her granddaughters.

We have several new bolts of Circle Play just in - 108" wide backing fabric.
Plus we just added 3 new colors to our selection of 60" wide Fireside from Moda - - - that's the soft, plushy stuff.

This weeks FEATURE

This week we are featuring YLI, 40 wt Machine Quilting thread at 1/2 price.

Purchase all remaining spools and take the display case home free!

Baby Bed Conversion

Many of you have seen the baby bed we use for display in the shop. This bed has been in our family since the 1940s and used for 3 generations of babies. In the years since my kids were born, this type of bed has been deemed unsafe so, it's shelf life has been diminished but I still love it.

Aren't the ducks adorable? And, one of my favorite parts is the patina in the wood across the top where little hands gripped it to stand and announce nap time was over. One of my friends once told me her son would call out, "I'm all done sleeping!!!"

If I decide to paint it, I will frame out the ducks and paint around them.

This is what I have done so far, removed a side rail. Future plans include covering the mattress and making back cushions to create a little sofa seat.

This is my inspiration piece.

I have also seen where you can remove the mattress and put in a board, paint with chalk paint or other, and use it for a child's desk/craft area.

Snow Day!

We are taking a snow day Tuesday, January 26. If you have a quilting emergency, give me a call. If you have any other kind of emergency, call 911!

Laura Sheeder was in this week to drop off her quilt top for our long arm quilter. This picture does not really do it justice. Some of the thread is sparkly metallic and the embroidered designs are filled in with crayons that are then heat set.

Very nicely done. Thanks for sharing, Laura.

Sunday Sewday!

Isn't this a beauty!  This is made from blocks many of you contributed.  I distributed patterns and pieces of the red fabric with instructions to add your on red, white and blues to make the blocks.

It was scheduled for auction at the Dallas County Fair in July of last year but, as with many, many things, that did not happen so, it got moved to the back burner.

I pulled it out a couple weeks ago and finished it up with machine quilting and binding.

This was more than just a one Sunday Sewday. It is huge! 104" x 120"

As far as I know, this will be in the DC Fair live auction in July. However, if anyone wants to buy it now for $2,000, every penny of the money will be donated to the Dallas County Fair 4-H programs.

Customer Show and Tell

Desiree  stopped in to show me her maiden voyage machine quilting on her sewing machine.
I personally think straight line quilting is attractive and creates a more contemporary look.

Here is the back. She used safety pins to baste and painters tape to mark lines. Starting in the center, she angled out and then filled in that area with evenly spaced lines.

To further enhance these solid color quilts, she used the faux piping in the binding technique.

Thanks for sharing, Desiree!

Winter Frost Quilt

Have you been snagging the free daily block postings at modafabrics.com for their Winter Frost project? Some of the blocks are used in this pattern. I don't see the angel or mitten so this must be just some of them.

A different pillowcase project -

This is a picture of some of the helpers at the Murray Iowa Mrs. Claus project.  Every Christmas, they help fill cases with toys to deliver to children in need in their community.

We have been remotely involved with this through donation of pillowcases over the years. Many of you have made and left pillowcases here that have been forwarded on to these folks to help with their charitable giving.

The need was up this year and bit into the reserves of the pillowcase supply fairly significantly so, this is a request to build the supply back up for future years.

If you can make a pillowcase or two this year and drop it by the shop, we will make sure it gets in the right hands for delivery to Mrs. Claus.

To help with this mission, we are offering 25% off of fabric that you designate for pillowcase making for this project.

Merry Christmas!

"I want a ipad, a pair of ice skates and a Merry Christmas to you, Santa. I love you.   PS I have been very good.  Love, Olivia"

- - - - from our home to yours, have a Berry Merry Christmas!

The LARGE hexie ruler

Have I shown you Tricia Snyder's new large Hexie ruler?

This ruler not only makes a 16" hexagons but also has markings for the side setting and corner units so you can build a hexagon quilt with no
y seams!

This is the first quilt Tricia made with her new ruler, The Hexie Tee Quilt. This pattern comes free with the purchase of the hexagon ruler.
This quilt also won a blue ribbon at the Iowa State Fair!

This is a quilt Trish made using Kaffe fabrics.

Here is a couple more I have made, just playing with colors and placement.

We have kits for these last two quilts as well as the rulers. These large pieces make quick work when piecing and takes T-Shirt quilts to the next level!

Nicole S shared her first big quilt. The fabric is glittery and so pretty. This will be a gift for her mother.

Here is a close up of the machine quilting pattern done by Lynette Heetland. Lynette drops off and picks up machine quilting jobs here in the shop. Nicole was absolutely thrilled with the job Lynette did on her quilt.

I have a book full of quilting patterns and thread colors to choose from for quilt tops dropped off here for Lynette to finish.

Need backing and batting? We got you covered.
