Lonnie's baby quilt.

Grandma Lonnie just welcomed baby Charlotte but there is another grandbaby girl coming soon. This is her baby quilt. Isn't it pretty? 

 She used a soft plush fabric for the back. Deb Semmens was the long arm quilter for this one.

Join us this week at the Adel Library on Thursday and/or Friday. Come for an hour with your hand work or leave your sewing supplies in  the room overnight and stitch with us both days.

The sewing room will be open at 10 am each day until the last stitch is made each evening.

No fee! You can bring snacks to share. Hope you can come.

Sunday Sewday - vote for your favorite lay out with the LOVE button

I've done a little cleaning so now it's time to go sew!

Yesterday I played with this fabric, cutting 4 long repeats from a  1 1/2 yard length of this border print.

Then I went down each long strip, cutting 60 degree pieces by inverting the ruler for every other cut.

There are several ways to arrange these 60 degree triangles. Vote for your favorite. These pieces are just laid out, not yet sewn. This is sample 1.

Here is sample 2. If I choose this layout, I will have enough triangles left over to make both of the toppers shown below.

Our condolences

Our condolences to our friends at the Quilt Block and to the family of Pat Ptascik McCue. Pat, who worked at the Quilt Block, died unexpectedly after work last Saturday evening. Her ready smiles and unfailing generosity will be greatly missed.  Funeral is Friday at 11 at WDM's St. Theresa.

Here is a picture of a couple of Pat's quilts. This pic was shared with me by one of her friends in the local Modern Quilt Guild.

Shop owners met this evening to combine all of the Scavenger Hunt forms from last weekend and draw for prizes. Here are the winners!

The Grand Prize goes to Sheryl Harvey from Van Meter. To be eligible for this prize, she had to visit each of the shops on the hop and answer all of their Scavenger Hunt Form questions correctly. 

Sheryl wins 5 yards of her choosing from each of the 6 shops.

A comfort quilt - - -

Jenny O needed a quick comfort quilt for a guy friend in treatment so she made this flannel rag quilt. 

We don't usually see binding on rag quilts but Jenny has found it helpful to prevent too much raveling around the outside of the quilt. I like the look!

Here is a close up of the label which she put on the front of the quilt. Notice, she also ragged the edges of the label. Nice.

Shop Hop Wrap Up!

March Quilt Circle Meeting

Joyce S. started off our show and tell with this series of baby quilts she has made.

Next up was Deb S. with a series of scrap quilts she is making for the live dog shelter.

Marge P. shared two quilts she has been working on. The first is a graduation quilt for a niece and then a small stitchery she is completing.

Theresa H. has been working on replacing her bedroom quilt and sham. Here are the shams, both old and new.

Abby has been busy finishing things up. A quilt for her granddaughter and a paper-pieced quilt, both done!

This was really cool. Diane W's daughter reproduced an old family postcard on to fabric and then made Diane this little zip tote. 

 Jackie O. showed us these two beauties she has been "weaving".

And last was my turn. We have each claimed our archive Get-Er-Done project for 2016 and now are encouraging each other in that  same direction. This is the first complete block for the quilt I started many many years ago and hope to Get Done! this year. 

My demo this month was the Block Loc ruler. The beauty in this ruler is the ledge that snugs into the seam line, really securing the block in place while you trim to size.

 I also shared some things that have been donated for us to finish up and sell at our spring library fund raiser. Members made selections to take home for inspiration. It will be fun to see what they bring back!

  Including this stack of Dresden plate blocks, over 100 vintage blocks donated to us.

We closed our evening with a snack of pecan chocolate chip bars and a sample tasting of Butter Finger candy bars, a recipe I hope to serve at the Adel Chocolate walk in May.

Feeling the spring!

Just in - aren't these pretty? Simply color from V and Co.

- - - a selection of baskets, hand made by the women of Ghana.

This is the first time we have carried the satchel style, about the size of a large purse.

Also the first time we have carried the Mini U-Shoppers. These are approximately 8" wide x 10" tall x 4" deep.

And these are the large U-Shoppers like those we have had in the past. I stick my purse in my basket every time I head to the city and come home with it full of whatever my errands of the day include - picking up copies, buying a gift, exchanging an item, purchasing office supplies - I just love mine.

All of the above baskets are very reasonably priced between $25 to $39 each.
