It was a Grand Closing

Thank you to everyone that came out during our 4 days of celebration. I was not expecting cards, gifts, flowers and wine! Thank you all.

Our last day included one last outdoor quilt show, this one featuring Block of the Month and Block Exchanges over the years.

Thank you to all of my friends and customers that participated in our programs and to those who loaned us their quilts for this show.

Things to note - - -

As I enter into semi-retirement, I will continue to update this blog as well as our Facebook page and our Instagram page with news from Adel Quilting.

You can also shop with us for mail order or Porch Pick Up at shopadelquilting.com.  We plan to feature mostly wide backs there.

I will also continue to send email updates to those on our lists. If you are not receiving our monthly news by email now, send me your email and I will add you to the list.

Effective August 1, I will close the website, adelquilting.com

One more thing - - - BLOGGER IS MAKING A CHANGE IN AUGUST TO THE SERVICE THEY PROVIDE. IT APPEARS THEY WILL NO LONGER SEND POSTS OUT BY EMAIL.

YOU CAN STILL VIEW BLOG POSTS AFTER AUGUST 1 BUT YOU WILL NEED TO GO DIRECTLY TO adelquilting.blogpost.com TO VIEW.  BOOKMARK THAT NOW.

Open Sew Resumes!

Beginning August 20th, gatherings to sit and stitch all day will once again resume at the Adel Library.

The 3rd Friday of each month there after has been reserved for Open Sew, 9 am to 8 pm.

I will no longer be the responsible party (I understand retirement means you no longer have to be responsible) BUT the library opens at 9 am so having a key should not be a problem.

Hours will be 9 am to 8 pm each month.  Ironing boards and old cutting mats will be available. PLEASE BRING YOUR OWN IRONS AND EXTENSION CORDS.

Otherwise, the rules are about the same as before. The library is providing the space for free and asks that we clean up behind ourselves and leave the room like we found it.

If no one has reported by noon, the library will cancel the reservation for that day.

Hope to see you all on August 20th!

GRAND CLOSING CELEBRATIO N

This long arm quilted top had to be taken apart for a re-do, very slow work for one but with help of many hands, it moved right along.

Dallas County Fair Auction Quilt

Here is our quilt on display for bidding this evening. One row is draped over the top rod, such a large quilt!

We gave customers a piece of red fabric and three different block patterns. They added their own patriotic fabrics to complete their blocks.

It was a big turn out, I am guessing at least 500 people, and such a beautiful evening to be outside.

Auctioneer, Chad Daugherty, did his usual great job of getting top dollar for all of the donated items - - pies, wood carved tree trunks and of course - - - - our quilt!

The King family took it home with the top bid of $1700!

Thank you to all who contributed blocks for this quilt. All proceeds will be used to send kids to camp.

This quilt kit is on sale now for 50% off making it just $15! Kit includes the pattern and all fabric for the quilt top and binding. Available in the shop or online at shopadelquilting.com

Sunday Sewday

I've been working on this basket, using covered strips of batting.

I have a rug to match that I will apply non-slip to and use for a rug outside my shower. I may put rolled hand towels in this basket.
The basket is partially done and partially pinned so I can show the gals at spring quilt retreat the steps.

Here is a shot of the basket inside.

Temperature Block Time

The average high temp in central Iowa for June was 86 degrees.  That makes our color for this month's block rosy red.

I have been noting the month on the color chart each month to help keep track of the order of the blocks.

Quilts and Plants? - Yes!

Here's a sneak peek at one of the gardens that will be on the Adel Garden Tour this Sunday, 2-4 pm.  Can you guess who is sponsoring this garden?

This garden has a couple special features. The VanHeukeloms have installed a drip irrigation system that delivers water directly to each plant at the rate of 1 gallon per hour. Very ingenious.  They also built an outdoor vegetable washing station that connects to a hose. Super cute and efficient.

Come early for the salad and dessert luncheon. Stay late for the Gardens to Grapes reception make-n-take at Penoach Winery.  And prayer for decent weather that day!

Tickets in person at Adel Quilting, Adel HealthMart or Harveys Flowers.  Online, snag tickets at Eventbrite.com - Easy to find when typing ADEL GARDEN TOUR in the search box.

Quilter's Garage Sale

Our dear friend Carol was a master at most any fiber art and the collection of fabric and supplies that she left behind reflects it.

Her children are hosting a garage sale of her collection this week at 1309 Grove St in Adel.  That's about 4 blocks north and 4 blocks west of the quilt shop.

Peruse some of the items for sale on Craigslist here.

The sale is this week, Thursday, Friday and Saturday beginning at 9 am each day.

Stop by to see us and we will give you a free spool of thread!

Sister time.

Last weekend, I went to a concert at our local winery. Folks were scattered around in lawn chairs.

These two are sisters, working on a quilt together.  It's for their grandmother who said she would like to have it before she turns 90!  She is now 88.

It was really special to watch them chat and stitch. I couldn't resist a picture.

Masked Memories

New baby quilt kit created from a mask panel. Just $29.

It's backed with Moda's plush Fireside fabric. Actually, I pieced the back from two smaller remnants of Fireside. Eazy Peazy.

And there were left over mask pieces in the panel so I stitched them up into little zip pouches. These are 2-sided with a different mask piece on each side.
