Summer Squash Recipe

Friend Kimber shared this squash and this recipe with me. It is easy and delicious.

Cut in 1/4" slices. The bumpy edges make for lace-looking slices

Dredge in this order:

• Italian Salad Dressing, Parmesan Cheese, Bread Crumbs

Bake in 400 degree oven until browned or pan fry in just a little olive oil.

The entire squash is edible, outer edge and all.

Curved Piecing

Thanks to all who came to Adel for our class on curved piecing last Saturday.  Watch for more class offerings.  We are planning a potential class on collage quilts for October.

Nothing but legs!

When in the world did this happen? It's like someone literally put stretchers on their legs!

Herbacious crafting

Part of the Adel Garden Tour included the after party at Penoach Winery which we dubbed "Herbs and Hors D'oeuvres".

Guests were invited to select herbs and three plant stakes to label and take home.

These are gift planters we made for the homeowners on the tour.

Stain remover

This little quilt, one of my favorites, recently got a whole glass of red wine spilled on it at an outdoor garden party.

I Googled for best way to remove wine from a quilt and tried techniques in order listed:

• Rinse with cold water- still a stain
• Slather with salt, let set and then pour boiling water over top  - still a stain.
• Soak in equal parts water and hydrogen peroxide - still a stain
• Soak in water and Oxyclean for Stain Removal for 6 hours -
• WINNER - no more stain!

Catching Up!

Happy 4th!

Feather Weight for Sale

Marilyn B. has a Feather Weight machine for sale for $400. If you are interested, pease call her at 515-681-7327.

Remember this quilt?

This quilt was a charity quilt made by gathering 10" squares from retreat guests.

Each guest was sent a temperature chart and instructed to bring a square of fabric that corresponded with the color on the temperature chart - - - using the temperature where they were when they opened the email message.

ANYHOW! These are the 10" squares that were collected. I pieced and quilted this and now it will be auctioned off with proceeds helping to fund camp fees for 4-H kids.

I'll follow up after the first week of July and let you know how it goes!

Sac City String Star Class

This was such a fun couple days in Sac City, learning String Piecing!

Show and Tell from Sac City

Here are the quilts shared at a recent quilters gathering I attended in Sac City.  Some of these are Quilts of Valor.

Ever feel this way?

Temperature Quilt News

Our average high temp in Central Iowa for May was 71.80. That makes our color of the month a blush pink.

Here's another sample of a Temperature Quilt:

Fran Cleary sent me this picture and story about a Temperature Quilt she is building to track daily temps in her neck of the woods. So fun and interesting!

"I was intrigued by your temperature quilt last year and decided to give one a try this year. The upper half of the half-square triangle represents the high temperature each day.  The lower one is the low temperature for the day. The solid squares scattered throughout mark the beginning of each month and are the average high temperature for the month.  Kind of fun to see how crazy the fluctuations have been in the Kansas City temperature from day to day this year.  This is through May 19. "
