October Quilt Circle of Friends

We opened with our usual chatter of both quilting and family news. Then it was around the circle for Show and Tell.
Bonnie shared the block she made for exchange at Perry Piecemakers.

- - and potholders she made using block patterns from the Farm Girl Vintage book.
Theresa showed us these little quilts that her husband pulled from a dumpster as he was cleaning out an old house property they recently purchased. One mans junk is a quilters treasure!

Nicki has been recouping from knee surgery and showed us the crayon totes she has been making to pass the time.

Trish and her mother, Margaret, are both doing this block of the month. We will enjoy watching these quilts grow.

Margaret also shared these adorable owl blocks she is making with her church quilting group. This group makes and donates comfort quilts as part of their ministry.

Margaret also shared this picture taken with Trish at the Iowa Quilt Museum where Trish had a blue ribbon quilt on display.

This is the red, white and blue block Margaret made for Sisters of the Cloth. These blocks will be part of our next auction quilt for Dallas Co 4H camp sponsorship.

Joyce has picked up on the challenge to make something using our Row x Row license plate. We will all share our challenge projects at our January post-holiday party. There will be prizes!

It seems like we have another one of these quilts at each meeting! Joyce made this from her half square triangle units collected from our exchange.

Every month for a year or so, we exchanged half square triangles that were made with a mostly black paired with the color of the month. Joyce used all of her black with white units on the back of her quilt.

and the leftover units became potholders!

Nancy H has been on a road trip and shared some of her purchases.

Including this purchase, her first kit.

Nancy J showed us this comfort quilt made from donated blocks through her church group.

Lonnie put together this top using leftover bits and pieces combined with the What Cancer Cannot Do panel.

Lonnie also made this little shop sample, using a Charm pack of 5" squares.

Deb is making crumb quilt blocks. At the beginning of the week, she puts several odds and ends cuts in this box and then just randomly sews them together. When she has made a big enough piece, she trims it square.

Celia shared the progress of the snack mats she is making for all the volunteers at the local food pantry. Her contagious smile is always the best thing she shares, though.

Kathy is making donation pillow cases.

She also shared a need for crib sheets, receiving blankets and baby quilts at the Mercy PIC unit (Pediatric Intensive Care).  Our circle was instantly ready to serve so I know you will be seeing lots of sheets, blankies and quilts for donation in future posts.

Flo was not present but I shared the quilt tops she has been making from Moda's Thicket panels.

I did a quick demo on making spring loaded trash and thread buckets. The squish down for easy packing for those quilting road trips.

Apparently, black and white checks were on every ones mind for the evening, at least these 4.

And it's that time of year! We drew for prizes and then snacked on pumpkin bars.

Thanks to Jackie O for taking these pictures and to all of my Quilt Circle of Friends.
