September Quilt Circle of Friends

IMPORTANT NOTICE, THE OCTOBER QUILT CIRCLE MEETING IS ONE WEEK EARLIER DUE TO a CONFLICT WITH RETREAT DATES. WE WILL MEET IN THE SHOP ON MONDAY, OCTOBER 14, 6 PM.

We started the evening by honoring Lonnie for 10 years of employment with Adel Quilting. If you look close, you will see the new 10 year pin on her "lapel".

Then it was time for show and share. Abbie made these cute pelicans.

And this is Margaret's version for the spring Tasters Mystery Tour quilt.

Deb finished this quilt from leftovers and is donating it to the Mercy PICU.

And she is donating this quilt to Warrior Wagons for kids in treatment, "What Cancer Cannot Do."

This was on Lonnie's Get Er Done list for this year and she did!

Deanna's Bermuda Triangle is growing. So pretty with yellow.

Jackie O shared this picture of a lap quilt she completed for a friend in the nursing home. Complete with a pocket.

Joyce was intrigued with our demo on half square triangles last month so went home a made this cute table topper.

Jackie O also finished this quilt and it will be a gift for Nancy H's first grand baby that should arrive before our next meeting!!

Two more What Caner Cannot Do quilts. These were presented by Jackie O to two of her relatives in treatment now.  We have such generous members in our group.

Grandma Nancy is nesting - baby due soon.

Almost done. One more border to complete the stars around the outer edge.

Joyce found and finished this just in time for Fall.

Theresa shared her favorite new hand sewing needle by Clover.

Lonnie commissioned this panel custom quilted by Nancy Sharr. Then Lonnie gave it the perfect finish with piping in the binding.

Nancy J combined some of the blocks from the Strip Poker Run with Marge's pattern, The Gypsy Sister, to make this Fall quilt.

Trish tested her new pattern using her newly developed acrylic hexagon template. It worked! This is the same pattern she used for her Blue Ribbon T-Shirt quilt.

Margaret shared her Free quilt. She added strips to a bunch of blocks she had left over from other projects. Now they have a home! 

Abbie had been commissioned to make a couple t shirt quilts for athe children of two veterans. She digitized this logo for one block.

Sue found this box for carrying all of her Deb Tucker rulers. Then she had her husband make a ruler rack to put in the bottom of the box to help stabilize the rulers. Clever idea.

Sue just got a new computerized long arm and she quilt this pretty one to practice.

This is Bonnie's latest masterpiece. All hand appliqued' of course and beautifully custom quilted by Julia Swallow! The plain part at the top is to go up over the bed pillows.

This is the look on Nikki's face when she realized she had to follow Bonnie. This is a block from our bom, Dollop of Daisy. Nikki is taking hand applique' class from Bonnie.  When her quilt is finished, it will be just as fabulous. This block looks great now!

Marti shared this beautiful quilt called Stuffed Olives.

Deanna found this little quilt in her archives and recalls it was a challenge but the memory stops there. Such a vibrant little quilt.

Here is another little quilt for the Mercy PICU. This one was made by the members of Central Iowa Free Quilt Society. I talked a little about the technique found in Victoria Findlay Wolfe's book, 15 Minutes of Play, where she invites us to get creative through 15 minute challenges.

We caught up on all the quilt news of the day, handed out several door prizes, had a snack and called it a night. Always a special time in our Quilt Circle of Friends.

Sisters of the Cloth

Sisters of the Cloth held their September class last Saturday. Our member trunk show and theme of our program was Red and White quilts. Since the trunk show was of my quilts and I am the picture taker, we don't have any of those to share but you have probably seen them anyway. Nice shirt, Kris!

  

Lonnie loaned us this quilt to show. It is all 1/2" hexagons, hand pieced and hand quilted by a girl named Exie when she was just 11 years old. She was a neighbor of Lonnie's and yes, this is a hexie quilt by Exie. Stunning.

We enjoyed another great program presented by historian, Kathy Wilson on life in a grand manor similar to Downton Abby.

We gather again in November 16 with a program by Becky Irmiter and Sue Kluber.

Row x Row Winner

Corki Stokka from Newton was in today with her version of a Taste the Experience quilt. She hand pieced and hand quilted this beauty.

Corkie cut her grandmother's pillowcases into 2" squares for part of this quilt, just to make it extra special.

She personalized the center of our block with her favorite food.

And because she lives on a horse farm, she had to include this horse standing in front of a round bale of hay. So cute!

Congratulations, Corki. She won 25 fat quarters from us.

Lindsay's QuiltN

Niece Lindsay came from Cedar Rapids last week with 4 quilt tops to machine quilt. Here is one. Isn't this nice? Her quilting is nice, too.

New Quilt Sample

Isn't this cute? Jenny O made this for us. It uses a pack for charms, cut into 2 1/2" squares.

Sunday Sewday

I made these little mug mats in my sewing time Saturday. Instead of embroidering these shop samples, I used a pigma pen.

Sandy's First Quilt

This is friend Sandy's first quilt. Some of you may remember Sandy as a bus mom from one of our bus trips. She brought the quilt top with her for a two day visit and together, we got it quilted and bound.

Another Taster's Mystery Tour Quilt

Linda Andorf used this pretty floral for the background of her Mystery Quilt and added the free fat quarters she picked up during this spring event.

Watch for it to return with a Christmas theme the first weekend in November.
